Strategy tips

  • Start with revealing all face-down cards by moving the cards in the tableau as much as possible
  • Get rid of Aces and Twos by moving them to the foundations to have more space to create longer sequences
  • Balance your column depth to have more flexibility
  • Auto-move is not always your friend! Sometimes keeping cards in the tableau gives more options
  • Remembering and being mindful of the stockpile cards is key, especially in draw 3 mode, to have a faster completion

Rules of Klondike

Objective of Klondike

The goal of Klondike Solitaire is pretty straightforward: move all the cards to the four foundation piles in ascending order from Aces to Kings.

This version of solitaire has become so iconic that it's often considered synonymous with solitaire itself, representing over 80% of all solitaire games played worldwide.

Setup

  • The game uses a standard 52-card deck - no Jokers obviously
  • The cards will be distributed as follows:
    • 1 card in the first column, 2 cards in the second column, 3 cards in the third column and so on until the 7th column which contains 7 cards.
    • Only the top card of each column will be face up, all the other cards are facedown.
  • The remaining cards are facedown and will form the stock pile.

Tableau rules

  • Players can move a face up card onto a higher ranked card of a different color
  • Players can move a stack of face up cards (when they follow descending order and alternating colors)
  • Players can only move Kings to an empty column

Foundation rules

  • Players need to start filling each foundation with an Ace, then add cards of the same suit in ascending order
  • When the four foundations are complete, the game is won

Stock Pile

  • Stockpile cards can be played to the tableau or directly to the foundations
  • Depending on the mode, the rules are as follows:
    • Draw 1 card: only one card is revealed at a time
    • Draw 3 cards: three cards are revealed at a time, but only the top one can be used.

End game

  • The game is won when all the cards are moved to the four foundations. If no moves are available then the game is lost
